February 13, 2013 Establishment of day care center for free chemotherapy to patients belonging to lower socio-economic sections of the society. Free of cost chemotherapy given to women with specific cancers and also to male patients suffering from head and neck cancer.
May 3, 2019 A new floor totally dedicated to chemotherapy treatment for patients inaugurated. Extending free chemotherapy sessions to a wider spectrum of poor and needy patients who are unable to afford expensive treatment in hospitals.

Inauguration Of SATSEVA By Dr. (Mrs.) Mehru Jal Mehta

Date : 1st December 1994

Purpose : To provide free home care to needy cancer patients suffering from advanced and terminal cancer.

Benefit : The project is still an ongoing project and has been providing free terminal care right at patients’ doorstep.

Uniqueness: Satseva is India’s first Home Care Program implemented.

Dr. (Mrs.) Mehru Jal Mehta who inaugurated the service became the president of Board of trustees in the year 1997.


Diwali With A Purpose

Date :21st October 1995

Significance : To provide emotional and psychological support to advanced stage cancer patients. This function is annually held around Diwali festival to solicit the attendance of those families whose patients have passed away, and to greet the patients under care at home.
Our Patron Mr. Shashi Kapoor visits the patients at home a day before the function to greet the patients and their families and distributes sweets, fruits and flowers to the patients.

Benefit : To get a first hand feedback on the patients outreach program SATSEVA and to greet the patients under care at home.

Uniqueness : he function is being organized every year in addition to visiting the patients at home to greet them a “Happy Diwali”. The sentiment is that many of the patients may not see the next Diwali Festival.

Appreciating the uniqueness of this function from the point of view of “Corporate Social Responsibility” , Hotel Taj Blue Diamond from the Taj Group of Hotels started sponsoring the event from the year 2000 and has become a annual feature for our donors and well wishers to attend alongside the beneficiaries.


Inauguration Of Screening Camp For Prostate Disorders For Men Over 55 Years Of Age-1997.

The prostate screening camp is being organized as an annual feature during February every year sponsored by the Shah family who have been consistently supporting the cause.

Purpose : A large number of senior citizens of Pune city have become a captive clientele in addition to 20% new citizens availing the screening facility every year.

Benefit : To get a first hand feedback on the patients outreach program SATSEVA and to greet the patients under care at home.

Uniqueness : Appreciating the inherent strength of the camp and the benefit to the society, Command Military Hospital(South Com) Pune came forward and has been hosting the camp inside the military campus as a very special and rare gesture.
Urologists and Radiologists from the command hospital provide their free services in addition to their counterparts from the civil who also actively take part in this camp every year.

The prostate screening camp is being organized as an annual feature during February every year sponsored by the Shah family who have been consistently supporting the cause.

Purpose :To provide free treatment for common health disorders and screen women for early detection of cancers specific to women.

Benefit : The project is still an ongoing project and has been providing highly subsidized services to women who have acquired motherhood or are sexually active.

Uniqueness : MATRUSEVA is unique in nature to ensure quality of health in a given catchment area and screen them systematically for early detection of cancers.
Appreciating the efforts provided to the society, a digital Colposcope was donated by the Rotary Club of Poona Cantonment and the equipment is perhaps the only of its kind in Pune to serve a specific purpose


Sub Centre of SATSEVA was opened at Nargis Dutt Memorial Hospital, Barshi on the advice of Dr. Praful Desai.

Date :1st January 1999

Purpose :To provide free pain management to the needy cancer patients suffering from advanced and terminal cancer in the rural area of Barshi, Latur & Solapur.

Benefit : The project is still an ongoing project and has been providing free medicines to the patients recommended by the Oncologists of the hospital.

Uniqueness : The services aim at rural outreach to provide pain free residual life.


Iduction Of Noted Actor Mr. Shashi Kapoor And Late Dr. Jal Mehta, VP – Serum Institute Of India As Patrons.

Date : 30th October 1999

Dr. Jal Mehta (now late) vice president of Serum Institute also became the Patron.

The prostate screening camp is being organized as an annual feature during February every year sponsored by the Shah family who have been consistently supporting the cause.

Significance :Mr. Shashi Kapoor has been visiting the cancer patients at home to provide psychological support. The celebrity visit makes the patient; their family and the neighborhood celebrate an occasion in their home.

Benefit : A large number of patients have been visited by the Patron over the years. The patient feels important of self and the neighborhood pays attention to the patient and supports the family members. The moments of joy his visits bring to the patients, manifests into a state of “happiness” even for a few hours/days, which is worth the effort. It is not out of place to mention that this kind of visits by celebrities is scientific and does contribute to Non-drug Therapy by ‘distraction’.

Uniqueness : As part of our drive to provide emotional support to the patients under care, our Patron Mr. Shashi Kapoor visits them at their homes to greet them whenever he visits Pune and especially on the occasion of Diwali.
Mr. Kapoor has been visiting the patients every year for the last nine years. Convinced of the purpose and the benefit to the patient and, of late he has been making such visits every quarter.


Visit of Gynaecologist to the female ward at Yerwada Prisons on weekly basis.

Date : 1999

Purpose : To improve the quality of health of the female inmates at Yerwada prisons.

Benefit : The Hb count which was earlier at 8 units among the female inmates, has now improved to 11 among most of them. They are now better off with vaginal infections well controlled and their other ailments well attended to.

Uniqueness : There is only one option for the prisoners in a jail to go to the local government hospital for any ailment needing treatment. Such visit of prisoners needs accompaniment by at least two female constables for security reasons. Since the prison authorities are overburdened due to shortage of logistic support to meet the needs, this organization has been providing patient care for gynaecological disorders inside the prison as a unique outreach to serve the underprivileged.

Date : 1st January 2000

Purpose : To provide highly subsidized services to the poor and needy.

Benefit : Pathology investigations are offered at 20% of the costs in the market for women and some free for very poor patients and female inmates of Yerwada Prisons.

Uniqueness : In addition to the normal blood chemistry analysis the pathologist reads the pap smear slides to assist the gynaecologist / lady doctors to focus on early detection cancer.

A majority of patients reporting to our institution Matruseva are from the lower socio economic sections of the society and cannot afford expensive pathological investigations. However without these investigations it is not possible to scientifically conclude the diagnosis / early detection of cancers.


Induction of Dr. Praful Desai to the Board of Trustees.

Date : 29th February 2003

Purpose : Dr. (Mrs.) Mehru Jal Mehta (an eminent oncologist of Pune) had to be relieved from the appointment of President of Board of Trustees due to her health and fitness reasons. Dr. Desai was then invited to join the Board of Trustees.

Benefit : It is a great privilege for a humble institution to have as eminent a person as Dr. Praful Desai to guide and advise the Board of Trustees to achieve the objects of the trust with reference to emerging science of oncology.

Uniqueness : Dr. Praful Desai, former director Tata Memorial Hospital, Professor Emirutus Tata Memorial Research Centre and an authority on cancer surgery in India for over five decades.

Inauguration Of Respite Care & Cancer Pain Management Centre VISHRANTI.

Purpose :o provide free inpatient care for cancer pain management and to get difficult symptoms under control for the improved quality of residual life and sometimes offer admissions to give respite to the family members

Benefit : The project is still an ongoing project and has been providing 24 x 7 nursing & supportive care, medicines, diet, stay, guidance / advice. All this effort is provided totally free of cost.

Uniqueness :The concept of providing respite care is still new in our country and perhaps this hospital is first of its kind in India.

As an effort to provide critical cancer palliative care, the hospital makes a deliberate attempt to bypass the diseased system to mitigate and improve quality of life in certain cancers in lower age groups.
