MATRUSEVA – Health Maintenance Program For Women

Established in 1998, MATRUSEVA provides services for women from lower socio-economic sections of society who have acquired motherhood or are sexually active. Women are identified, educated and screened periodically for common health disorders and for diseases that require high cost treatment such as cancer, tuberculosis etc. The families are guided and persuaded to avail of free surgical procedures. This enables a close follow up of cases identified under high risk.

The women are provided free consultation for gynaec problems and antenatal advice and are given treatment at a nominal cost of Rs. 20/- including registration and free medicines. Free screening for cancers specific to women is carried out every year and free surgical procedures such as LEEP/ Cauterization are offered where early lesions are detected. Two MATRUSEVA clinics have been established so far with over sixteen hundred women becoming new beneficiaries every year. A dedicated ‘MATRUSEVA PATHOLOGY LABORATORY’ offers pathology investigations
at highly subsidized costs which are less than 40% of the market rate.

On an average we have had more than 1500 new beneficiaries registering every year between the two clinics.

A dedicated MATRUSEVA PATHOLOGY LABORATORY was opened in the premises of the  MATRUSEVA clinic on 1st January 2000 in a bid to make pathology investigations available at highly subsidized costs. By this, we are able to provide pathology investigations at 40% of the cost in the market. A digital Colposcope was also gifted by Rotary Club through an International Project with another club from California in the year 2004. The equipment has been helping in detection of early lesions on cervix and making it possible to explain to the patient as well as family members how to make an informed choice to make the patient undergo simple surgical procedures as recommended by the World Health Organization.
